Creative landscape design and architecture studio, Terravita has been at the forefront of Ibiza’s sustainability movement for over 20 years. With a local focus and global mindset, the multidisciplinary design studio has been paving the way for innovative and environmentally conscious architecture and landscaping. ‘We believe that in order to create a better tomorrow, we must start working today with the greenest possible energy’.
Headed up by architect Jason Watson Todd, their specialist team of designers are all dedicated to finding sustainable solutions, working closely alongside their clients to meet their needs in the most energy efficient way. From their paperless office powered by renewable sources, to their projects, they place sustainability at the heart of everything that they do. ‘Every step counts when trying to counterbalance climate change.’ Expertly combining quality design with innovation and sustainability, the result is meticulously designed, ecologically conscious homes and gardens.
Their most prominent project, Can Tanca, is their most energy efficient home yet, remarkably producing zero carbon emissions. In fact, the house produces more energy than it emits, rendering it completely self-sufficient. As a result, Can Tanca is one of a handful of buildings globally to have been awarded the highly sought-after Passivhaus Premium Award, but Terravita don’t want to stop there. Their aim is for Can Tanca to become the first building in the world to be achieve both Passivhaus Premium and BREEAM Exceptional, two of the most respected sustainable design accolades in the world. Located in Sant Joan de Labritja, the house is equipped with renewable sources including solar panels that generate enough energy for the home’s heating and electricity, as well as a rainwater collection and treatment system that supplies the domestic water system.
Renowned for never compromising on quality, Terravita upheld their Spanish roots and designed a home that is a testament both to Ibicencan architecture and contemporary design. Rooted in pioneering design with diverse economical and environmental benefits, Can Tanca heralds a new age of sustainable design for both the island and the world.
